AGE RANGE: 8-12 years old.
COST: £38 per day.
LUNCH:
Please ensure children are provided with a healthy packed lunch, snacks and water. (NO NUTS)
ABOUT RACHAEL
Rachael Coward is an artist and curator working across installation, printmaking and book works, her interests lie in heritage, language, thresholds and place. She is also an art educator and facilitator, frequently working with young people and families. She has recently worked with Tate, Milton Keynes Arts Centre and the South West Heritage
Nature Sketchbook Workshop
Join artist and printmaker Rachael Coward to learn how to make your own sketchbook. You will then learn different drawing and printmaking techniques to fill your book with nature-inspired artworks, including mono-printing & cyanotype. We will take time to explore the grounds of Truro School and take photographs of the wildlife we find to inspire our artworks.
What to expect
Session #1: 8:30 – 10:50 (2hrs 20mins)
Make our sketchbook pages.
Go outside into the school grounds to photograph wildlife to inspire our artworks.
Make gelli prints for our book cover pages.
Breaks: 10:50 – 11:10 (20mins)
Session #2: 11:10 – 12:50 (1hr 40mins)
Go outside to collect leaves and natural materials for cyanotype making.
Create cyanotype design and expose in sunlight to develop.
Lunch: 12:50 – 14:00 (1hr 10mins)
Session #3: 14:00 – 15:30 (1hr 30mins)
Drawing and mono printing workshop inspired by our photographs.
Break: 15:30 – 15:50 (20mins)
Session #4: 15:50 – 17:00 (1hr 10mins)
Complete sketchbook by selecting the best drawings and prints and sticking them inside the sketchbook.
Lino Printmaking Workshop
Join artist and Printmaker Rachael Coward to design and create your own geometric patterned lino print inspired by ceramic tile design. We will research tile patterns from history and explore the grounds of Truro School to help us design our own patterns before cutting and printing our lino block. By the end of the session you will have a number of 2-colour prints.
What to expect
Session #1: 8:30 – 10:50 (2hrs 20mins)
Learn about the lino printing technique, research tile designs from history.
Go outside into the grounds of Truro School and make photographs and drawings to help inspire our own designs.
Breaks: 10:50 – 11:10 (20mins)
Session #2: 11:10 – 12:50 (1hr 40mins)
Design our pattern to be cut from the lino block.
Experiment with colours to finalise our colour palette.
Lunch: 12:50 – 14:00 (1hr 10mins)
Session #3: 14:00 – 15:30 (1hr 30mins)
Cut the first layer of the lino block and print to make a repeating pattern.
Break: 15:30 – 15:50 (20mins)
Session #4: 15:50 – 17:00 (1hr 10mins)
Cut and print the second colour of the lino block to complete the print.
